A high-speed chase in Miami ended in a dramatic crash involving a Cuban national, who was arrested after attempting to flee police at over 120 miles per hour on the Palmetto Expressway (SR-826). The failed escape resulted in a violent collision and an alleged attempt to bribe a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officer, authorities reported on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Alejandro García Estrada, 32, was apprehended on Sunday following a pursuit that began when an FHP trooper observed him recklessly driving a black Ford Mustang with white stripes westbound on the Palmetto Expressway near Northwest 67th Avenue. According to the arrest report, cited by local media, the trooper activated his lights and sirens to pull over the vehicle. Instead of complying, the driver sped up, weaving through traffic and nearly causing multiple accidents as he raced southbound at speeds exceeding 120 mph.

The chase persisted until the Northwest 122nd Street exit, where García Estrada ran a red light and collided with a white vehicle. The impact caused his car to overturn, coming to a rest on its roof. Despite the severity of the crash, officers found the suspect trapped inside the vehicle and managed to extract him with the help of an off-duty Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputy.

Violent Resistance and Failed Bribery Attempt

Once removed from the vehicle, García Estrada exhibited aggressive behavior and resisted arrest, prompting officers to use a Taser to subdue him. While in custody and inside the FHP patrol car, the Cuban allegedly tried to bribe the officer with money in exchange for his release, according to the police report.

Charges and Legal Situation

García Estrada is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Resisting an officer with violence (two counts).
  • Fleeing and eluding police at high speed in a marked vehicle.
  • Bribery of a law enforcement officer.
  • Reckless driving causing damage to property or persons.

He is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) on a $12,500 bond. Authorities have not disclosed the condition of the driver of the other vehicle involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
