Mexican in the U.S. Goes Viral Criticizing Cuban Trump Supporters

Wednesday, March 19, 2025 by Edward Lopez

A Mexican living in the United States has stirred up a heated debate after voicing criticism towards Cubans who supported Donald Trump in the last presidential election. In a video that quickly gained traction, Edán Méndez shared his frustration with certain members of the Cuban community in the U.S., especially those who arrived during the 1980s and 1990s.

Méndez reflected on how, during those years, Cubans fleeing the island received unwavering support and solidarity from all Latinos in Miami, notably when they risked their lives on makeshift rafts to reach American shores. "Back then, when Cubans tried escaping from Cuba, it was all over the news. We would all rush home to watch it on TV like it was the Champions League. They'd put a small motor on a raft or boat, risking their lives, with five, six, even up to 12 people, just to reach Miami," he recounted.

He reminisced about how Hispanics would flock to the beaches to assist Cuban immigrants escaping the oppressive regime. However, Méndez expressed disappointment with how some in the Cuban community, now supporters of Trump, seem to have forgotten those times.

"Now, these people are 30, 35 years old and have forgotten all that. They were among the first to support Donald Trump, thinking he was only against Mexicans and Central Americans," he remarked, emphasizing the shared history among immigrants in the U.S. and the vital role of solidarity among diverse communities.

Méndez pointed out that many of these same Cubans, now U.S. citizens, have raised their children to "dislike other immigrants," ignoring the solidarity they once received and the support consistently provided by the government. "And now, look at them, asking for unity once more to fight for them again. Life certainly has a way of coming full circle," he concluded.

His TikTok message has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with numerous users weighing in on the issue. The video has become a hot topic, sparking conversations about immigration policy and the evolving nature of immigrant communities in the United States.
