A 54-year-old Cuban man named Jesús Rodríguez was taken into custody by Hialeah police this week following an incident in which he allegedly threatened another man with a pocket knife.
According to police reports, Rodríguez began trailing the victim without any clear reason while they were both in the parking lot of a Home Depot, located at the intersection of 49th Street and 16th Avenue West.
The situation became more dangerous when the victim confronted Rodríguez, who then brandished a pocket knife, threatening to kill him. Fortunately, the victim was able to distance himself quickly, avoiding direct harm, while Rodríguez tried to hide among the parked cars.
A witness, who observed the entire episode, approached an off-duty Hialeah police officer nearby and reported the threat. Thanks to the swift action of this officer, Rodríguez was apprehended soon after the incident.
Upon his arrest, officers found the knife in Rodríguez's pocket, confirming the witness's account of the threat.
"They say he pulled a knife on a truck driver," a local Cuban familiar with Rodríguez told America Tevé. "He's not an aggressive person. We've known him for years. He gets along with everyone here. We all look for work around this area, and he's always been friendly with us," he added, expressing his surprise at the incident.
Another Cuban, who also frequents the area, echoed this sentiment, saying, "He's not aggressive or anything. I don't know what could have happened. We need to find out what really went on."
Following his arrest, Jesús Rodríguez was given a $5,000 bond and a restraining order regarding the victim. As of the latest update, no further details have been confirmed about the incident.
