A 59-year-old man has been taken into custody by Miami Police, accused of fatally stabbing another man of the same age on February 5th near El Cacique restaurant in downtown Miami. According to police reports, the two men reportedly had a dispute over money just moments before the attack.

The victim, identified as Wilfredo Clemente Campo Alegre, was discovered bleeding on the sidewalk outside the restaurant located at 112 West Flagler Street. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to a stab wound to the torso shortly after.

Breakthrough in Investigation

The investigation moved forward significantly thanks to security cameras that captured a man, identified as Luis Acosta-Barbón, fleeing the scene on a white electric scooter. Initially, his whereabouts were unknown, but an anonymous tip led police to locate him in the Allapattah neighborhood, specifically near Northwest 17th Avenue and 23rd Street.

Acosta-Barbón was intercepted by officers and received a traffic citation before being arrested for resisting without violence. During questioning at the homicide office, without a lawyer present, he denied knowing the victim, despite surveillance footage placing him at the crime scene. When confronted with the evidence, Acosta-Barbón's statement was excluded from the official report.

Key Testimonies and Legal Proceedings

Crucial witness testimonies bolstered the case against Acosta-Barbón. A witness informed police that days before the murder, Campo Alegre mentioned owing money to someone known as "Flaco," which is also Acosta-Barbón’s nickname. He was positively identified in a photo lineup conducted days after the crime.

This week, during a court hearing, a judge found probable cause to proceed with second-degree murder charges and ordered Acosta-Barbón to be held without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Miami Police have confirmed that the investigation remains active, with the potential for further developments in the coming days.
