Florida Sees Lowest Gas Prices in Over a Year

On Sunday, Florida recorded its lowest average gas price in over a year, with a gallon costing $2.97, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). This figure marks a two-cent drop from the lowest point in 2024 and is the lowest daily average price since December of the previous year.

The reduction in gas prices is notable: 13 cents less than the previous week, 13 cents lower than the previous month, and 55 cents below the price recorded on this date in 2023, as reported by News 6 WKMG. For motorists filling up a 15-gallon tank, the average cost is now $44.55, which translates to a savings of $8.25 compared to last year.

AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins explained that "low oil prices and robust gasoline production levels have contributed to this decline, which hasn't been seen in over a year." However, he cautioned that seasonal factors like refinery maintenance, increased spring demand, and the transition to summer gasoline could drive prices up in the coming weeks.

Currently, more than 70% of gas stations in Florida are selling gasoline for less than $3 per gallon. The lowest 10% of prices average $2.76 per gallon, while the highest 10% average $3.35 per gallon. Florida's average price remains nearly 20 cents below the national average, making it one of the most affordable states for filling up the tank.

Recently, the White House stated that the Donald Trump administration is succeeding in lowering the cost of essential products like gasoline and eggs, as part of an effort to rectify what it calls the "economic disaster" left by former President Joe Biden. During a press conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt declared that the country is in "a period of transition" and that the president has maintained his commitment to policies aimed at restoring economic stability.

"If you look at the president's first term, his economic formula was clear: massive deregulation, tax cuts, and an energy boom that lowered the cost of living," Leavitt stated. According to her remarks, Trump is implementing the same strategy in his current administration, ensuring that "in fact, it's even better this time."

In February, gas prices in Florida were unstable, initially rising by 12 cents and then falling by 8 cents shortly after. However, drivers found an average state price of $3.08 per gallon, which is 6 cents higher than what was observed at that time, 10 cents less than the previous month, and 24 cents lower than the same period in 2024, as reported by CBS News.
