Cuban actor Leonardo Benítez recently addressed the social media storm that arose after a photo of him dressed as a woman alongside comedian Andy Vázquez surfaced online. This image, originally shared in a CiberCuba news post on Facebook, was taken during a 2019 taping of the show "Vivir del Cuento" and sparked a wide range of reactions, from praise to jokes and criticism.

Amid the flurry of opinions, Benítez himself commented on the post to express gratitude for the support and to affirm his stance on art, creative freedom, and his commitment to his audience. "Thank you for the kind comments, and for the love and respect you show me. My life is my own, and I am free to portray any character offered to me. However, my characters belong to you, my family, forever, and they will remain in the memories of many," he stated.

Reflecting on the character, Benítez added, "I loved this character and continue to do so, just as I do with my role in the current novela and the police series 'Tras la Huella,' among others that have marked pivotal moments in my acting career. Thanks to 'Vivir del Cuento' for inviting me to work with such talented actors and comedians, and thanks to Andy Vázquez for reminding me of this moment. Once again, thank you, family, for the respect and affection. Meanwhile, I will keep creating characters to gift to you, my people. Much love."

The photo in question features Andy Vázquez in his iconic role as Facundo Correcto, while Benítez's feminine portrayal drew humorous comparisons to La Cintumbare, a well-known Cuban influencer. Reactions were swift, with comments like "Is that La Cintumbare?" joked one user, while others praised Benítez's acting skills and celebrated his versatile career on Cuban television, highlighting his roles in 'Tras la Huella' and several national soap operas.

Despite Andy Vázquez now residing in the United States and Leonardo continuing his career in Cuba, the image evoked memories of a golden era in Cuban television comedy, where both actors shared the screen and left an indelible mark.

In addition to his acting career, Leonardo Benítez has ventured into private enterprise with "LaTitona," a small café-bodega in Havana, blending his artistic vocation with personal entrepreneurship.
