Cuban American Shares Troubling Experience at Miami Airport: "Avoid Travel Unless Necessary"

Wednesday, March 26, 2025 by Claire Jimenez

A Cuban American residing in the United States, who has held U.S. citizenship for three decades, recently shared a disconcerting experience on TikTok about his treatment at Miami International Airport after returning from a family trip to Cancun, Mexico. Known on the social media platform as @the_nextlevel_electric, the man recounted being detained by immigration officials despite his long-standing American citizenship.

He described being taken to the notorious "little room" for a thorough inspection, a process he had never encountered before. "I just got back from Cancun, Mexico. I'm a citizen, my daughter is a citizen, and my wife is a resident. They sent me to the little room, conducted an inspection like I've never experienced in my life, and made me fill out questionnaires," he expressed with visible frustration.

The questioning included inquiries about recent travel to countries such as Saudi Arabia, Israel, or Iraq, which heightened his concern over the scrutiny he was facing. "I was the one they almost deported. What a scare we had at that Miami airport! I've been a citizen for 30 years, and they don't care about any of that," he stated.

The video, which has gone viral on TikTok, has sparked unease among users, particularly within the Cuban American community, due to the tightening of immigration controls and the fear that such practices may become more common.

"Be careful, if you don't have to travel, don't," the Cuban American advised, urging fellow travelers to exercise caution when considering international trips.
