How to Make Authentic Cuban Coffee with Froth

Sunday, March 30, 2025 by Sophia Martinez

One of the greatest delights for Cubans is savoring a cup of coffee topped with frothy foam. Achieving this characteristic froth doesn't require electric coffee makers; instead, a simple yet effective technique is employed.

Brianna, a popular figure on TikTok with the handle @brianna4258, has taken to social media to reveal her method for crafting Cuban-style coffee with froth.

To start, Brianna uses an Italian coffee maker—also known as a moka pot or macchinetta—filling it with water and ground coffee as usual. She places it on the stove and, while waiting for the brew to begin, she prepares a separate cup with four tablespoons of sugar.

"You have to be very attentive because it's with the first brew that we make the froth," Brianna advises. The initial coffee drip is poured into the sugar and vigorously whisked until it becomes a thick, well-integrated consistency. The coffee maker is then returned to the heat to finish brewing, and once complete, the Cuban coffee is served.

To serve, a spoonful of the cream is placed in a coffee cup, followed by the rich, black liquid. A gentle stir with a teaspoon and it's ready to be enjoyed. The key lies in using the first drip of coffee, which is the strongest, to create the perfect froth.
