Cuban-American Outraged by Mistreatment of Colombian Resident at Miami Airport

A Cuban-American woman was outraged by the mistreatment of a Colombian resident at Miami International Airport by a Cuban official. The woman, named María Teresa, took to TikTok to share a video from the airport, recounting the incident involving a young Colombian who has been a resident in the United States for a decade. The young woman was returning from a four-day trip to Punta Cana.

Upon her arrival, she was taken to a separate room where she was attended to by two plainclothes immigration officers. The Cuban official immediately dismissed her documents, stating they were worthless, and treated her rudely. "He told her her papers were worthless and threatened to send her back," María Teresa explained.

The official then demanded access to the young woman's phone by asking for her password. "He said, 'If you get upset, I'll make sure when you apply for American citizenship, you’ll be denied and sent back to Colombia,'" María Teresa recounted.

She described the offending official as a relatively young man, tall, somewhat strong, with a tan complexion, bald, and bearded. María Teresa, who had also just returned from the Dominican Republic, highlighted the stark contrast between the courteous treatment she and her dog received and the poor treatment experienced by the Colombian woman solely because she was not a U.S. citizen.

"I'm appalled to see a young woman in tears, a resident for ten years, being treated this way," she questioned. María Teresa added that as a Cuban-American and taxpayer, she demands that immigration officials perform their duties properly and familiarize themselves with the laws being implemented by Donald Trump.

"There are many who wear the uniform and misuse it to exert their own oppressive tendencies. We must oppose oppressors. As a Cuban, I fight against repression in Cuba, against Canel. It's outrageous to witness such behavior here," she emphasized.
