The nostalgic flavors of Cuban childhood have made their way to Miami with the introduction of Coppelita ice cream. This venture aims to revive one of the most cherished traditions among Cuban immigrants. A Cuban family, longing for the iconic Coppelita machines once found in Havana's La Rampa and other provincial centers, decided to incorporate this classic treat into their business.

"Ice cream brings back so many memories, especially those tied to my children. Whenever we could, we’d buy a Coppelita; it was a must. From that nostalgia, the idea of offering this service in our company emerged," Nelson Martínez, known on social media as "Chef Nelson," shared with CiberCuba.

Martínez explains that their offering includes the traditional ice cream cone, but enhanced in terms of quality and variety, providing many more options than before. "The difference lies in the ice cream's composition, which is based on the flavor that Coppelitas had in Cuba," he notes.

Their recipe stays true to the essence of traditional Cuban ice cream, featuring classic flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. However, they have expanded their variety thanks to Miami’s influence, offering popular flavors such as piña colada, coffee, mango, and pistachio. "In fact, chocolate and vanilla remain our customers' favorites," adds the chef, a graduate of a culinary school in Cuba.

This entrepreneurial venture began amid the COVID-19 pandemic, initially facing challenges due to the lack of events and celebrations at the time. Nevertheless, focusing on delivery services allowed the business to grow and establish itself in the market.

Today, the company provides both home deliveries and ice cream stations at events, overcoming logistical challenges associated with transporting heavy machinery. "We didn't anticipate such high demand, but it has been surprising. Since announcing this new ice cream station, every event we've booked has requested the service," Chef Nelson asserts.

He invites those who wish to enjoy this nostalgic experience reminiscent of old Cuba to request the service via social media at @chef_n3lson. "It would be a pleasure to bring a taste of Cuba to your next event," he concludes.

Many Cubans who have recently arrived in Miami have successfully grown their businesses despite the challenges of migrating to an entirely unfamiliar country. This Sunday, the story of young Cuban entrepreneur Leidy Aragón also came to light. She started a cleaning business and now inspires thousands with her story of overcoming obstacles.

Similarly, Dany González, 30, launched a food truck last year specializing in Brazilian-style grilled meats, also featuring traditional Cuban dishes like congrís, fried yuca, and ropa vieja.
