Eduardo Antonio Confronts Homophobic User: "Support, Don't Attack, Fellow Gays"

Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio, widely recognized as El Divo de Placetas, publicly condemned a homophobic attack he faced on social media this Monday. The incident occurred after he posted a photo with his husband, Roy García, at a recent event.

The controversy began when the artist shared an image of himself elegantly dressed alongside his partner on the red carpet at a documentary gala. The caption read: “RED CARPET. DOCUMENTARY PREMIER GALA DRAMA.” Among the comments, a user identified as Manny Formigo wrote: “Red carpet for the diva.”

El Divo de Placetas promptly replied: “You were left stunned when you saw me on the red carpet.” However, the attack persisted as the user responded to someone else: “I never claimed to be God, but he's a joke with his outfits and all the surgeries he's had. And if he wants to be a woman so badly, he should go through with the operation.”

Faced with these remarks, Eduardo Antonio issued a strong response on his social media: “Gays should support each other and not tear each other down. Learn that. Because you’re a ‘comadre,’ not a ‘compadre.’ You’re not fooling me,” insinuating that the attacker might also be gay. He continued: “I don’t prefer dressing as a woman or being a woman, but if I did, what’s your problem? What’s your issue?”

The singer also defended individual freedom and criticized the hypocrisy of those who judge from within or outside the LGBTQ+ community: “Last night, we attended an event where we were both very elegant, dressed formally in men’s attire. Your homophobic comment is entirely out of place. It seems life didn’t give you enough time to learn that gays support each other, not attack each other.”

Eduardo Antonio concluded with a clear message: “I love freedom and delight in everyone choosing how they want to be, how they want to dress. Don’t try to be charming; it doesn’t suit you.”

This isn’t the first time Eduardo Antonio has publicly defended himself against homophobic remarks. In 2024, he lashed out at comedian Ariel Mancebo, accusing him of ridiculing him with offensive content. On that occasion, the artist made it clear that he was no stranger to defending himself against mockery or attacks related to his sexual orientation.

Days later, he reaffirmed his identity and relationship by proudly sharing images of his home adorned for the Christmas holidays, filled with symbols of love and unity alongside his husband: “Red attracts love,” he expressed in a post showcasing his Christmas tree, demonstrating his fearlessness in expressing his feelings publicly.

In recent months, El Divo de Placetas has shown he lives life to the fullest, as he has mentioned in interviews and posts. Following surgery in Miami, he reappeared in high spirits, grateful for the affection he received. Shortly thereafter, he surprised his followers by sharing a summer photo, exuding confidence and reinforcing his message of authenticity and self-love.

Even a painting dedicated to him sparked reflection when, instead of being upset, he defended his right to be who he is without asking for permission or apology.
