A traveler was apprehended at the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport in Varadero after authorities discovered hashish concealed inside a shampoo bottle. This was confirmed by a senior official.

William Pérez González, the first deputy chief of the General Customs of the Republic, shared the news on the social platform X, stating: "#AduanadeCuba detects drugs for consumption at Varadero airport, hidden inside a shampoo bottle. The hashish was found in rock form and crushed. Appropriate measures were taken #AgainstDrugsWeWin #SecureBorder."

While the identity of the person detained remains undisclosed, it is presumed that the passenger intended to enter the country when customs officers intercepted him during a routine check.

Increasingly Ingenious Smuggling Methods

This attempted drug smuggling incident is among a rising number of cases detected at Cuban airports, prompting authorities to intensify checks against ever more inventive techniques employed by those trying to circumvent the law. From false compartments in luggage to pills disguised as candy, smugglers are getting more creative.

In recent weeks, Cuban Customs have identified several instances that illustrate the creativity of drug traffickers attempting to sneak substances into the country. Notably, 31 sheets laced with synthetic cannabinoids were found hidden in packages of disposable diapers arriving from the United States at Havana's airport.

Additionally, a woman received a 19-year prison sentence from the Santiago de Cuba Provincial People's Court after attempting to smuggle a kilogram of cocaine from Jamaica, concealed in the soles of several sandals.
