"There was a period in my life when I made choices thinking I was safeguarding what was mine... protecting my family. They found weapons on me, and at that time, I thought I was ready for a war. But the truth is, that war was imaginary," Pina wrote.
He admitted to living defensively, driven by fear and anger, mistakenly believing that strength was shown through power and control. However, time spent in prison and the separation from his loved ones offered him a new viewpoint.
"Family isn't shielded with weapons. Family is protected by presence. By being there. Fighting for them, setting an example, showing respect, love," he asserted. "I realized I let them down. In trying to protect what I loved most, I ended up being absent."
Pina addressed his ongoing healing process and renewed dedication to his family, emphasizing a fresh perspective on what it means to be a man and a father: "A true man doesn't instill fear; he commands respect through his actions."
He concluded his reflection with a declaration of faith, stating his biggest battle now is internal, fought daily "for them... for my family."
"Today, I fight with a different energy. With a new vision. Because I understand that the most crucial battle is the one within oneself," he concluded. "And now, I will continue to defend the indefensible... not with weapons, but with truth and with the support of the one who cares for my family and me: God."
