A Cuban mother of three was allegedly murdered by her former partner in the town of Guayos, located in the Cabaiguán municipality of Sancti Spíritus. The woman's body was discovered this week buried in a pit at the residence of her ex-partner, as reported on social media by Delvis O. Gutiérrez, who identified himself as her nephew.

"Let everyone know what a shameless murderer this man is. He killed my aunt and dumped her in a pit at his own house in Guayos, leaving three children without a mother," Gutiérrez stated in a Facebook group post. "I hope the police in Sancti Spíritus sentence this shameless man to life imprisonment. Just remember, you left your child without a mother and destroyed a family," he added.

Social media sources identified the victim as Yipsy Pelegrín Milián, who had been missing for about a week before her body was found. Reports indicate that the alleged killer even participated in family efforts to find her, despite having already killed and buried her.

The body was eventually recovered in a large police operation with the assistance of firefighters, amid the community's shock. The tragic case of Yipsy Pelegrín echoes another recent femicide, that of Julia Salvadora Segura Guerra from Violeta, a municipality in Ciego de Ávila's Primero de Enero.

Escalating Gender-Based Violence

In Julia Salvadora's case, her body was found buried in her backyard on March 17, two days after her family reported her missing. Her husband is currently detained, and authorities are investigating the incident as a gender-based murder.

Additional reports this week highlighted the case involving Gisela Reyes, a woman who survived an attempted femicide in Calabazar de Sagua, a town in the Encrucijada municipality of Villa Clara. According to neighbors' reports shared online, the woman, known as “La China,” was attacked by her partner who stabbed her in the neck. Believing she was dead, the attacker then hanged himself. However, Reyes was discovered alive and taken to the hospital, where she is now recovering from her injuries.

As of the writing of this article, feminist platforms have not confirmed the death of Yipsy Pelegrín Milián. On March 26, the platforms YoSíTeCreo in Cuba and the Alas Tensas Gender Observatory reported a total of nine femicides in Cuba up to that date.
