Cuban police authorities have apprehended the owner of a farm in Campo Florido, located in the municipality of East Havana, after discovering a small marijuana plantation and other items linked to potential drug trafficking activities.

Javier Gutiérrez, an official source close to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), reported on Facebook that the operation took place at the farm known as La Lima. During the raid, officers uncovered 16 marijuana plants, a jar containing marijuana seeds, and an unspecified amount of cash. “He will now have to answer for his actions in court,” Gutiérrez declared triumphantly, highlighting the operation as “another significant step in our fight against drugs in this area.”

So far, the authorities have not provided additional official details regarding the accused, the amount of money seized, or the exact charges he faces. However, it is assumed he will be prosecuted for offenses related to the production and trafficking of prohibited substances.

The plantation was immediately dismantled, and the individual was taken into police custody, according to images and comments shared by the spokesperson. This is part of the Cuban regime’s broader crackdown on drug trafficking amid increasing control and surveillance of agricultural activities in rural Havana.

In a related incident last December, a young man was arrested in the municipality of Gibara, Holguín, after authorities found several clandestinely grown marijuana plants at his residence. This operation is part of the intensified actions against rural drug trafficking by Cuban authorities, who have noted a rise in domestic cultivation of narcotics in remote areas.

In March, the regime admitted in an official report that marijuana and cocaine trafficking networks were detected in Camagüey, which was labeled as a serious threat to national security. The authorities also acknowledged the involvement of minors in drug-related activities and the use of agricultural spaces to conceal illegal crops.

Shortly thereafter, a man in Santiago de Cuba was arrested for maintaining a cultivation of over 200 marijuana plants in his home. The arrest sparked widespread debate on social media, where users questioned the authorities’ ability to detect these cases in a timely manner. Images of the operation revealed the extensive nature of the plantation, underscoring a concerning level of sophistication in these illegal activities.

Recently, authorities conducted one of the largest drug busts of the year in the province of Holguín, leading to the arrest of 69 individuals and the charging of 16 for drug trafficking. In addition to marijuana, synthetic drugs such as “the chemical” and controlled medications were seized. Large amounts of cash, weighing instruments, and distribution materials were also confiscated. Authorities emphasized that these operations are part of the “Third National Exercise for Drug Prevention and Confrontation,” with a special focus on rural communities and schools.
