Update on the Search for Missing Cuban Child at Matanzas Beach

Wednesday, April 9, 2025 by Felix Ortiz

UPDATE: Shortly after this report was released, an official source announced that the body of the child was found on the beach near 54th Street in Varadero on the same Wednesday.

The relentless search for an eight-year-old boy who disappeared Saturday afternoon in the waters of Boca de Camarioca Beach, located in the Cárdenas municipality of Matanzas, has yet to yield any official updates. "More than 72 hours have passed, and the search continues for the child who went missing at Playa Boca Camarioca in Matanzas," reported the pro-government profile "Atenea Matancera" earlier this Wednesday.

Previously, another pro-government social media account, "Karlos C. Roble," mentioned that the search efforts were ongoing. He noted that professionals and experts from the Ministry of the Interior, including divers and naval resources, were involved in the operation. The same source mentioned that together with local fishermen and residents, rescuers have been conducting extensive searches along the rugged coastline and river area, as it’s believed the child might have been swept away due to the location's unique characteristics.

Search efforts will continue, taking advantage of studies conducted on the behavior of marine currents in the region. Earlier this week, Roble had already reported that a specialized team of 17 divers had taken the lead on the maritime operations since Sunday in an area known for its scenic beauty but also its perilous nature.

The Incident

The tragic event unfolded on the afternoon of April 5 in the Villa Los Pinos area. The young boy was enjoying a day at the beach alongside his 20-year-old brother and other family members. During a brief moment of distraction, he was left in the water with a young girl without direct adult supervision, and soon after, he vanished.

Initial theories suggest that he might have been pulled under by a wave or lost amidst the beach's characteristic underwater pockets and irregularities.
