A man's body was discovered hanging on a roadway in Santiago de Cuba this Tuesday, in what authorities suspect was a suicide. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada shared the news on Facebook as he continues to investigate the tragic event.
"People say he had been there since Sunday," he reported. A young woman named Yeline Domínguez confirmed the deceased was her uncle. "It's true, he's my uncle and he's been dead there since Sunday," she stated.
The incident took place on the road leading to the Clinical Hospital, very close to the perimeter fence of the local military region. "It's so close to the military area, with so many people passing by, how did no one see this?" questioned a local resident.
Numerous witnesses reported seeing police patrols and forensic vehicles after passing the Santa María area, heading towards Ferreiro Park, just past the Trébol. According to a local resident, the victim was a young man living in the La Ceiba Military District neighborhood.
A woman commented on the dire situation: "People are desperate; there's no food, no medicine. They have children and can't even provide bread or milk for them to go to school. Many choose to end their lives to escape this nightmare."
