Social media is abuzz with a video showing the exact moment U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), apprehended a Cuban repressor who failed to disclose his ties to the regime upon entering the country. Filmed by a witness from an upper floor, the footage displays nearly a dozen agents confronting Daniel Morejón García, aged 57, in a parking lot while wearing a green shirt during the arrest.
In the video, one of the officers can be seen searching Morejón García's pockets after he is handcuffed. Additional brief clips, posted by Cubanos por el Mundo, capture the exact moment when agents, armed, exited a vehicle to arrest Morejón García.
A post on X by Miami's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unit revealed on Monday that Morejón García was taken into custody last Friday at his Miami residence following an investigation by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations. The investigation targeted fraudulent statements he allegedly made upon entering the U.S. Morejón García failed to disclose his membership in the Communist Party of Cuba, according to the post.
ICE released a statement clarifying that "during the investigation, law enforcement officials obtained official Cuban government documents and credible source information indicating that Morejón García had not disclosed his affiliations." It added that he "supposedly omitted being a member of the Communist Party of Cuba and an agent of the Cuban Ministry of the Interior in his immigration applications."
Furthermore, the press release stated that Morejón García served as President of the National Defense Council in the province of Artemisa and was a member of the Rapid Response Brigades. Authorities allege Morejón García was activated by the Cuban government during island-wide protests on July 11, 2021, with evidence suggesting he assaulted demonstrators as part of his duties.
Highlighting his role as a repressor during the 11J protests in Artemisa, exiled activist Diasniurka Salcedo recently showcased a video capturing Morejón García assaulting a protester on the streets.
