Species of the Caribbean flora as "ocuje" and "majagua" are planted in the streets and parks of the only Cuban city founded by French colonists.
Local Monument office director and architect Iran Millan told Prensa Latina it is a tradition to have public trees in this urban center, created on April 22, 1819.
The City Hall's Chapter Certificates in Cienfuegos register the sowing of trees in public places dated before 1856.
The historic center, which appears in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage since July 2005, includes a 70-block area.
In a first phase, a park will be built with nine monumental sculptures to recreate scenes of the animal kingdom.
Vanguard visual art figures of this city, known as "La Perla del Sur," participated in the project, convened by the Advisory Council for the Development of the Environment and Monumental Sculpture.
