Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque and his Guatemalan counterpart Gert Rosenthal signed on Friday agreements to broaden bilateral ties during the 3rd Bi-national Meeting held in Havana.
After ending official talks, both foreign ministers signed a Final Declaration and an agreement for the creation of three ophthalmology centers.
During the official talks held at the offices of Cuba's Foreign Ministry, Rosenthal expressed that both nations can work in many sectors with the objective of broadening cooperation. For his part, Cuba's top diplomat said that the Guatemalan delegation has been one of the largest that has travelled to the island and added that the meeting was a success.
He recalled that over 10,000 Guatemalans have received eye surgery free of charge, the majority of them operated on in their own country. There is, said Felipe Pérez Roque, mutual respect based on political dialog between both nations. He recalled that there are some 300 Cuban medical personnel in Guatemala and 700 Guatemalan youth studying on the island. More than 200 Guatemalans have already graduated as doctors.
