As he inaugurated officially the provincial school for this kind of orchestral format, the Minister pointed out that 90 municipalities out of the 169 existing in the country have already their own module, with the aim of promoting the socio-cultural development of the communities.
With the opening of the installation in Ciego de Avila, there are already six of this kind in the national territory which are to be found in Bayamo, Las Tunas, Holguín, Guantánamo and Villa Clara, while over the rest of this year there are expected to open in Havana City, Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Matanzas, Sancti Spíritus, Cienfuegos and Pinar del Río.
The program, which appeared in 2004 after a proposal of president Fidel Castro, will allow for every municipality to have their own group by the end of the year 2008. This represents a revolution in the improvement in the quality of life of the Cubans.
The educational establishment in Ciego de Avila is named Javier Vilardell in honor of the founder of the first concert band in the territory and it includes 207 young people from eight localities, who will be taught during three years in percussion and wind instruments, music theory and group practice.
