The fourth Regional Summit of the International Association for Physical Education and Sports (ISCPES) started sessions Thursday with an excellent presentation of the disciplines practiced in Cuban communities.

Alberto Juantorena, vice president of the Cuban Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), said in his opening words that the event will be useful to show the development of physical education in Cuba.

Juantorena recalled the Cuban population has an average life span of 75 years thanks to the practice of sports, and he expressed gratitude to ISCPES for the trust in Cuba to organize the event.

Joseph Morella, representative of the Association of Caribbean States, also expressed gratitude, he thanked Cuban authorities for having granted scholarships to students from other nations.

"We need help to build stronger ties and exchange ideas and materials," he said.

Over 240 delegates from 28 countries are attending this fourth edition of the event in the Plaza America Convention Center in Varadero, and the meetings will extend until Saturday.

As part of the schedule, 30 blocs of athletes of different ages performed demonstrations of aerobics and martial arts.
