According to Lt. Col. Domingo Carretero, an expert from that institution, the drill is scheduled for May 19-20 and will be aimed at assessing the level of safety and measures to be taken to reduce casualties and damage.
Agencies attached to the National Defense Council, state institutions and economic and social organizations will participate in the exercise, which is carried out every year before the hurricane season begins in the Atlantic Ocean.
Carretero told reporters that the people and units from the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Interior Ministry will also take part in the drill.
Meteoro 2007 will consider previous experience to mitigate the havoc caused by natural disasters and will improve vulnerability studies in each territory.
Dr. Jose Rubiera, head of the Forecast Department at the Meteorology Institute, predicted that this year s hurricane season (from June 1 to November 30) might be quite active.
