Cuba's Calatayud leading sports poll

Cuba's middle-distance runner Zulia Calatayud is so far leading the world media's selection of the 2006 best Latin American and Caribbean athletes, in the women category.
Replying to Prensa Latina's 43rd Annual Poll, eight press organs have already made a choice, and five of them voted for Calatayud.
The latest votes in favor of the Cuban runner were cast by Argentina's TyC Sports News, the Autonomous Sports Confederation of Guatemala, and Bolivia's La Razon daily.
Jamaica's 100 meter hurdle runner Asafa Powell is on the lead in the men category.
Cuban javelin thrower Osleidys Menendez and Brazilian soccer player Ronaldinho were selected as the best female and male athletes, respectively, in the 2005 edition.
Votes will be received until Thursday, December 21, 2006, and results will be released the following day. Worldwide media is invited to cast votes to Prensa Latina as soon as possible.
