Cuba takes second win at Women's Montreux Volley Masters

Cuba took a hard fought win over China on Thursday during the third day of competitions of the 23rd annual edition of the Volley Masters women's international tournament that is underway in the Swiss city of Montreux.
Cuba beat the reigning Olympic champions in five sets 25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 25-16 and 9-15. Yumilka Ruiz led the island's attack with 21 points while Nancy Carrillo, Rosir Calderón and Yanelis Santos contributed 19, 18 and 17 units, respectively.
Also in Pool B, Poland edged Turkey in five sets (25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 13-15) while, in Pool A, Germany posted a surprising victory over Russia also in four sets (28-30, 25-20, 25-18, 25-13). The two other members of this group, Serbia and the Netherlands, rested on Thursday.
After these results, in Pool B, Cuba and China classified for the semifinal stage with two victories apiece although Cuba will be looking for a third one when they face Turkey on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, in Pool A, the Netherlands already secured a spot in semifinals while Russia is out with two losses in as many outings. The fourth and last semifinal berth will be for the winner of the Serbia-Germany match on Friday.
