Miguel Puga, Chicxulub mayor, reported that those marginalized communities have established cooperation with Cuba to bring medical and educational benefits to the people, beginning in 65 days.
He said that the Yo Si Puedo method was previously applied successfully in Michoacan, Nayarit, and Tabasco, where several indigenous regions were declared free of illiteracy.
The Cuban method is designed for people over 15, and consists in teaching how to read and write through educational videos, where a virtual teacher help the students take the first learning steps, backed up by a physically present facilitator.
Puga announced that that his constituency also requested the presence, in his community, of Cuban experts in gynecology and obstetrics, because Yucatan is one of the states with the highest women s death rate due to cervical, uterine and mammary cancer.
