Since the sugar plantations that have for centuries surrounded the area will be replaced by other kind of crops, local authorities have agreed on several projects with the City Preserver's office and the government so that the balance between the natural landscape and the new agricultural productions won't be neglected.
According to Victor Echenagusia, specialist on heritage issues in Trinidad city, one of the old buildings which served as a sugar factory until very recently will be turned into an exhibition center where visitors will find information on the the history of this territory so closely related to the sugar cane.
The Valley of the Sugar Mills keeps valuable archeological ruins and architectural buildings dating back to the XVIII and XIX centuries.
