Cuban environmental model highlighted

Cuban acting Minister of Sciences, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Fernando Gonzalez, said that the island's environmental policy is a model that could contribute to the global eradication of the gases producing the green-house effect.
In statements the press, the Cuban Minister highlighted the achievements attained by the energy revolution undertaken throughout the island, which has developed the people's environmental perception.
Gonzalez also stressed the significance of the World Environment Day and recalled President Fidel Castro's words in 1992 when he said the waste of natural resources is progressively killing mankind.
The CITMA Minister bestowed last Monday the Environment Prize 2007 on several institutions in a ceremony held in the eastern Cuban province of Granma.
