A film about the life of Cuban author José Lezama Lima will start shooting next week in Havana, directed by filmmaker and scriptwriter Tomás Piard.

The film, funded by Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) will be entitled El Viajero inmóvil. Lezama Lima was born in 1910 and died in 1976. He was an outstanding poet and narrator.

His paperback Paradiso is one of the most dazzling novels in Cuban literature.

Lezama Lima was one of the masterminds behind the creation of magazines Verbum, Espuela de Plata, and Orígenes. The later, the most significant of them all, gathered other noteworthy intellectuals such as Cintio Vitier, Eliseo Diego, Fina García Marrúz, Roberto Fernández Retamar, and musician Julian Orbón.

Piards film will have 142 actors in the cast, including Iván Carreira Lamothe, an teenager who starred Cuban film La edad de la peseta, winner of three awards in the last Latin-American film Festival held in Havana in December last year.

El viajero inmóvil will recreate the wonderful Lezamesque supper of the Olaya-Cemí family in Paradiso. Together with the characters of the novel, important personalities of the islands culture will also appear in the supper scene.
