The Cuban film La Edad de la Peseta (The Silly Age), by director Pavel Giroud, won an important award at the 50th San Francisco International Film Festival that took place from April 26 to May 10.
La Edad de la Peseta is the young Girouds first feature-length film, set in 1958, the year that culminated in the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. The movie won the Chris Holter Humor in Film Award in recognition for its moving, pleasant and optimistic story.
The San Francisco Festival is the oldest of its kind in the United States. The top award was won by the Mexican film El Violin by Francisco Vargas. The film tells the drama of a farmer musician in times of repression against the indigenous populations.
