A press note broadcast by local radio and TV networks indicated that in the four-hour friendly meeting, the two leaders dealt with results of Operation Miracle (free eye surgery program), "Yes, I can" literacy program, progress of the energy revolution in Nicaragua, and other issues of national and international interest like climate change and biofuels.
According to the release, the presidential meeting represented a new step in the strengthening of Cuba-Nicaragua relations.
Fidel Castro, the note reported, expressed satisfaction for the gathering, and thanked Oterga for his multiple denunciations of terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, and many other signs of solidarity with Cuba.
Early today, the Nicaraguan president was welcomed by Army General Raul Castro Ruz, second secretary of Cuba s Communist Party, and other top officials, and exchanged viewpoints on key issues linked to bilateral collaboration.
