An exhibition of Cuban pictures taken by Canadian photographer Richard Martin is displayed at the Gallery at 120 Ossington until June 2 as part of the Contact Toronto Photography Festival.
Moving beyond the superficial stereotypes of Cuba, this exhibition explores the everyday life and spirit flourishing in the streets of Havana, Trinidad, Santiago and Guantanamo, as noted by the gallery's website, www.129ossington.com.
Martin's work creates a stunning and intimate portrait of Cuba and its people through the dynamic colours and rich textures which symbolize their society and culture.
Fragments of buildings, street life and architectural details are transformed into lyrical beauty as Martin positions them ambiguously between the observable and the abstract.
