Silvio, the author of song "Ojala", which celebrates 40 years of his artistic career in 2007, will perform at the National Auditorium on April 16 and 17 and in the Zocalo Plaza on April 22.
He told the Mexican press that poor people can never be a part of the world of music, so he is excited with his presentation at the Zocalo Plaza (Mexico City's greatest public plaza) because "it is very important to take culture to the people."
He showed his approval for the incursion of Cuban music in rhythms coming from other countries, like US hip-hop and Jamaican reggae, because Cuba always received and transformed foreign influences.
"I don't get upset or make any sneer when someone tells me about "reggaeton" because there are better musical expressions than others, just like in any other kind of music," he said.
He said he is preparing a CD in homage to his deceased comrade and fellow country man Noel Nicola, in which he will include 36 songs performed by renowned Cuban artists, such as Juan Formell, Jesus "Chucho" Valdes, Victor Manuel and Pablo Milanes, among others.
He said he is also involved in the process of writing the musical soundtrack for a cartoon film in Cuba.
