A digital project entitled "Virtual Archive" is being carried out in the eastern Cuban province of Ciego de Avila to promote knowledge of the region's history.
The initiative resulted from an effort by local historians and computer students to create CDs on different topics containing photos, documents, graphics and text.
The project is also aimed at providing access to the history of the head municipality during the Spanish colonial, neocolonial and revolutionary periods.
In addition, it will contribute to the preservation of the region's documentary historic heritage, which will be available to students and professors as of 2007.
Those actions, experts said, show once again the importance of new technologies to spread the country's history.
