Cuban drummer Dafnis Prieto made his debut in Istanbul with his new musical band Absolut Quintet that lends its name to his most recent CD featuring pieces he himself penned.
The specialized criticism describes him as a bearer of a vital authentic music and considers him as a strong candidate for Grammy 2007 in the Best Latin Jazz Album category to which he has been nominated.
Prieto, one of the most notable Cuban drummer today, called saxophonist Yosvany Terry, ex-member of the Group Columna B to join his band as well as Jason Lindner (keyboardist), Christian Howes (violin) and Dana Leong (cello)
Theyve just arrived in Italy and after performing in Turkey in their tour of the continent will go to Spain, where they will give 5 concerts and finally Austria and Croacia come on March 20.
Graduated from both the School of Fine Arts of Santa Clara (central Cuba) and the National Music School of Havana, Prieto's performances reflect a solid formation based on Afro-Cuban rhythms and his like for jazz music.
He has taken part in international festivals as soloist and with several bands and as a composer he has made music for movies, dances, chamber ensembles and of course for his own band.
