The Vladimir IIlich Lenin University, located in eastern Las Tunas province, has raised the number of openings and majors during the present academic year in the modality of part-time courses for workers.
For the first time, it will be possible to study Informatics Engineering in that center.
Some 270 openings in different specialties will be available for those interested in the courses.
According to Manuel Guerrero, official from the Ministry of Higher Education in Las Tunas, some of the majors include industrial engineering, agronomy, economics, law, and socio-cultural studies.
He noted that all workers, despite their age, will have similar opportunities in opting for a place, for which purpose they will have to take entrance examinations in mathematics, for scientific and technical specialties and economics, and Spanish in the case of humanities.
Currently Cuba has some 620,000 university students enrolled in 90 courses, most of them attending classes near their homes in community-based higher education centers.
