Chess grandmasters Vassily Ivanchuk Ukrainia) and Kamil Miton (Poland) lauded the quality of the 41st Memorial Jose Raul Capablanca Tournament opening Friday.
Upon arriving in Cuba, Ivanchuk, ranked 12th with 1,729 point ELO, noted the elite group s level with four visitors and six locals, making this a top level event.
The Ukrainian GM lauded Cubans Leinier Dominguez, Lazaro Bruzon and young Yunieski Quesada, who represented the Island at the Olympics.
Miton said the event, to unfold in nine rounds, was like a school and recalled several remarkable editions.
