Havana Film Festival to open December 5th

The festival will overtake the Havana movie theatres through December 15 and features the latest Latin American cinema competing in the categories for documentaries, fiction, first films, unpublished scripts, posters and animation.
As in previous years, there will also be showings of German, Italian, Spanish, French and Swiss cinema parallel to the competing films.
Speaking at a press conference at Havana's historic Hotel Nacional, Alfredo Guevara, president of the organizing committee, said that this year for the first time a showing of experimental films will take place during the festival.
A total of 463 films will be shown during the festival and among the many visitors expected are British actor Ralph Fiennes and director Stephen Frears.
Guevara called attention to the conferences to be held entitled, The Audiovisual Universe of the Latin American Child and The Reality of Latinos in the United States.
This year's festival will pay tribute to the San Antonio de los Banos International Film School in its 20th anniversary and includes a showing of films from the school's graduates.
