It was recently known that the popular Brazilian actor José Wilker, main character of films like Doña Flor y sus dos maridos (Mrs. Flor and her two husbands) and the soap opera Roque Santero, will be one of the personalities who will attend the XXVIII New Latin American Film Festival of Havana.
Wilker is one of the Brazilian artists most loved by Cubans who enjoy his presence in the soap opera currently broadcast by Cuban television Señora del destino (Mrs. of Fate). Here in this capital he will present next to film director Carlos Diegues, the movie O maior amor do mundo (The Biggest Love of the World), vying in the category of fiction feature film.
Diegues, a vet of the novo cinema in the 60s, still in shape offers in O maior amor do mondo (The biggest love of the world) -awarded in Montreal, Canada - a plot that synthesizes the recent history of his country assorted with a personal drama.
In order to unfold his story he appealed to one of his lucky actors, Wilker (Mrs. Flor and her two husbands) who personifies a scientist that made a career in the United States and in the last stage of deadly illness, he returns to his country to receive a badge.
According to the critic, it is a impenetrable story, with blasts of magic realism, used by Diegues in his previous work, God is Brazilian.
According to statements of Iván Giroud, director of the festival, most directors with competing films will be in the Island from December 5th to December 15 or, in if they cant come, actors or personal associated to the films.
Eighteen works will struggle over Coral awards in the category of featured film and a few others in the premiere category.
Several personalities will travel to Havana for the Festival. So far have confirmed their presence the British Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liasions) and Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient) who will attend the festivities for the XX anniversary of San Antonio de los Baños Cinema School, and parallelly, to the meeting Havanan fílmica (Filmic Havana).
