Film Festival

March is already breaking through in the calendar to the rhythm of the French cinema which returns again, as one of the most important summons in the seventh art in Cuba, year after year and which, in this year 2007, will exhibit in 36 theaters of the entire country, included the capital as well as the other thirteen provinces and the special municipality the Isle of Youth, for the satisfaction of thousands of movie fans.

With 19 feature films that include several genres of fiction, as well as the sentimental comedy, thriller, with strong emphasis in the police and action areas, added to the psychological drama and historical memory. There will also be exhibited two short movies series, one aimed at children and the other to adults, with documentaries, movies, and cartoons the festivity of Francophone will reign in Cuban screens since March 9th once more.

French cinema will occupy several theatres as customary in Havana city, such as Charles Chaplin, headquarters for the Cuban Cinema Library, and the Charlot room, venue for the video sample, the Foundation of the New Latin American Cinema, and La Rampa, Payret, Yara theaters, as well as the multipurpose movie-theater Infanta.

Directors, scriptwriters and actors will participate in the presentation of their films, in every first-run of the works in competition, at Chaplin theater, during night time, since one of the essential characteristics of the French Cinema Festival in Cuba, is the exchange carried out between French filmmakers with the Cuban film directors, critics, and spectators who attend by thousands to the theaters.

The opening ceremony will take place in the evening of March 9th, and will have the attendance of Tristán Carné, author of the original idea of the movie, as well as the actress Joana Preiss, in the premiere of the film Paris, I love you / Paris, Je T'aime which will later will be exhibited to the public of Havana in several rooms. The work co-produced by France-Germany-Switzerland-Liechtenstein in which relevant personalities of the seventh art have participated, like Gérard Depardieu, Alfonso Cuarón, Christopher Doyle, Richard LaGravenese, Vincenzo Natali, Alexander Payne, Bruno Podalydès, Walter Salles, Daniela Thomas, Oliver Schmitz, Nobuhiro Suwa, Tom Tykwer, Gus Van Sant, as well as part of the cast Catalina Sandino Moreno, Barbet Schroeder, Li Xin, Miranda Richardson, Juliette Binoche, Willem Dafoe, Nick Nolte, Gérard Depardieu, Bob Hoskins, Ben Gazzara, Steve Buscemi, Gena Rowlands, among others.
