Montserrat and Cuba to benefit from cultural exchange programmes

The government of Montserrat is to establish a range of cultural exchange programmes with the people and government of Cuba.
Montserrats Director of Culture Herman Cupid Francis has been holding discussion with members of a delegation from Cuba who were on island this week.
"Cuba is very strong culturally especially in the artistic industry. I have been able to discuss with the Cuban delegation possible cultural exchanges and the provision of scholarships for Montserratians to pursue studies in performing arts at Cubas universities."
Francis said talks also centered on the setting up of a project to have professionals from various cultural backgrounds in Cuba, conduct workshops on Montserrat in their area of expertise.
He said its hoped that most of the suggestions made for assistance in the area of culture will be confirmed before the end of this year or certainly during the first half of next year.
The government of Montserrat is also seeking assistance from Cuba, for the development of the islands year end Festival.
It has also been able to attract a Cuban contingent, including a section from Cubas world famous Carnival, to perform at this years Miss CARICOM International pageant, which is due to be held at the Cultural center at Little Bay in Montserrat.
