A new athletics track to improve the training conditions of Cuban high-performance athletes will be built at Havana's Pan-American Stadium, said Jose Llorentes, director of that sports facility.
The 250,000-dollar track will be built in August and September, said the official, adding that the Cuban Sports and Recreation Institute will fund the works, in conjunction with the International Athletics Federation.
According to Llorentes, the current track is so deteriorated that any world records set on it cannot be homologated.
Cuban jumpers are training in the Venezuelan city of Merida and other athletes are completing their preparation in Brazil, as they cannot train at the Pan-American stadium.
