There are still other 1 431, mainly specialists in General Integral Medicine (MGI), who continue saving lives in distant places where doctors were not common before.
Due to the damages and victims provoked by the 1998 hurricane (Mitch), Cuba designed the Integral Health Program (PIS) intended to assist other people. The plan was later on extended to the African continent.
There are also other ways for health cooperation in the island like the special plan for Venezuela, Bolivia and China as well as the compensated technical assistance and the emergency brigades for immediate aid in case of natural disasters or catastrophes.
Sancti Spiritus health workers have so far assisted people in 46 countries.
