When they first notes of the Cuban National Anthem were heard in the patio of Muralla 63, the present crowd, I guess, had the unanimous sensation that wed be exception witness: an afternoon of intimate happiness and also of deep reflection was looming.
On Thursday November 2nd took place on the patio of yagrumas a ceremony that would praise from two trends the work carried out in the last decade by the Cultural Center Pablo de la Torriente Brau: the awarding to the institution of the Medal Alejo Carpentier which grants the state Council of the Republic of Cuba and the Distinction For the National Culture granted by the Ministry of Culture to María Santucho, General Coordinator of Pablo center.
The poet and film director Víctor Casaus, director of Pablo Center, when thanking the recognition asserted that "this order strengthens our commitment with Cuban culture" and he thanked the presence of the minister, Abel Prieto, who "since the foundational moments of the institution - ten years ago - has offered us its support and unconditional encouragement". The Medal Alejo Carpentier was symbolically given to Ruth de la Torriente Brau, Pablos sister: what better chest that that one for a medal!
