Cuban Senior Vice President Raul Castro urged to eradicate the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, transmitter of dengue, and conveyed President Fidel Castro's concern.

Granma daily said Raul Castro issued the call at a meeting with Provincial and Municipality Council Presidents at Havana s International Conventions Center.

Among other issues they addressed the domestic hygiene-epidemiological situation, namely the ongoing anti-mosquito drive, based on a report from Public Health Minister Jose Ramon Balaguer.

Raul Castro also inquired about involvement by official institutions and mass organizations in communities and workplaces, adding that the battle can be won by raising people s awareness of the risks.

The meeting also addressed the resources used in the campaign and stressed the need to secure regular environmental clean up and seek solutions as difficulties emerge.

The agenda also included the housing program, with 68,640 houses out of 100,000 completed by August and the Energy Revolution with 20-plus programs underway.

The meeting also discussed social security, nutrition and control of state-run offices.
