Havana hosts the 12th National Meeting of Septets from June 28 through July 1 paying tribute to Ignacio Piñeiro National Septets 80th anniversary.
The folk music show brings onstage bands representing the provinces throughout the island. Also theyll take part in workshops on the trumpet and the tres; Cuban 6-string guitar.
The event will open up growling sonic spaces, where to enjoy the vitality of Cuban folk music.
The Septeto Nacional was established by Ignacio Piñeiro himself on Dec 13, 1927. he was an excellent sonero, singer and composer, whose childhood days saw him singing in choirs and playing drums and bass. In 1927, he performed together with the troubadours and tres players, until he founded.
Piñeiro and his ensemble successfully played around the island and abroad. To musicologist Odilo Urfé " he became a hit maker playing pure Cuban roots music".
The National Meeting calls on younger traditional music bands like Mongo Rives and Tumbita Criolla (the Isle of Youth); Septeto Santiaguero and Son Diamante and Septeto Ayer y Hoy (Guantánamo); Septeto Unión (Cienfuegos); Son del Yayabo (Sancti Spíritus); Son del Barrio (Las Tunas) and Matamoros and El Habanero.
Organized by the Ignacio Piñeiro Provincial Centre, participants will attend the 8th edition of the Colloquium Ignacio Piñeiro in Memoriam June 28 - 29 in the Centre for Researching and Developing Cuban Music (CIDMUC) with domicile at G e/ 23 y 21, Vedado.
Musicians, researches, musicologists and music specialists will debate on topics such as; Cuban popular music, general panorama of Son and musical branches, updates and evolution, human impact on the latest Son bans.
