Cuban singer songwriter Silvio Rodríguez will be part of the Troubadour Contests jury paying homage to the Mexican painters Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) and Diego Rivera (1886-1957) as it was announced.
The same sources said the event honours the 50th anniversary of Rivera's death and the centenary of Kahlo's birth.
Its co-sponsored by Cubas cultural institution Pablo de la Torriente Brau and the Mexican Embassy to Cuba. Communist militant painters join efforts calling for the Contest that will run July 6 through November 24.
Rodríguez - a good friend of Mexico - will work together with two other jurors; poet Víctor Casaus, director of the Pablo Centre and art critic Germán Piniella.
They will grant only one prize for the work that best expresses Kahlo-Rivera's social/cultural legacy.
