Singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez returned to Peru after a 21-year absence and delighted three generations of Peruvians at a concert on Thursday evening that ended around midnight, reported Prensa Latina.

Silvio sang for nearly three hours on the southern summer night to an estimated 8,000 fans in an open air concert at Limas Jockey Club.

Upon arriving in the Peruvian capital earlier in the week Silvios statements at a press conference were widely reported.

"Living in Cuba is a physical testimony of commitment because my fate is that of the country," said Silvio.

When asked about the real possibility of a US military aggression he replied: "I dont think they are going to invade Cuba, but if it happens I wouldnt hesitate to grab a rifle, just like everybody else, and defend my country." Rodriguez said such determination isnt "worthy of any special exaltation."

On Friday, Silvio Rodriguez received an honorary doctorate at the San Marcos University for his contribution to poetry.
