Participants to the 5th edition of the International Choir Festival América Cantat, will have the opportunity of enjoying since March 30th until April 7th of a wonderful professional, cultural, and social exchange. It's expected the attendance of 16 full choirs from Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela (and others); three gala choir groups, among them, the Vocal Ensemble Amanda, from Sweden, and the Grex Vocalis, from Norway; and singers from other nations.
Likewise will be present the most important Cuban groups like the National Choir, the Schola Cantorum Coralina, Exaudi, the Polyphonic Choir of Havana, Vocal Leo, Vocal Luna, and the Choir of Bayamo, among others.
The Festival, sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music and the Organization América Cantat, will be inaugurated with the Psalm of the Americas, of José María Vitier. The National Symphonic Orchestra and 110 singers from different Cuban groups will participate. This will take place on the evening of March 30th, in Karl Marx Theater.
These encounters first appeared in 1992, in Mar del Plata city, Argentina, with the purpose of promoting the knowledge and interpretation of the choir music of this continent in every genre and styles, as well as to spread the work of its directors and choirs, besides the historical and cultural values of our peoples and nations.
Several concerts rooms, located in the Historical Center of Havana, will host part of the ample artistic program of the encounter that schedules for every afternoon, presentations of the participant groups. And in the evenings, will take place the gala concerts, at Amadeo Roldán Auditorium Theater. For Tuesday April 3rd, it's announced the unique performance of the Saxophone Quartet of Santiago de Cuba, together with the Diva of Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo, and maestro Chucho Valdés.
The concert of the Choir Amanda, from Sweden, with Vocal Sampling, from Cuba will be held in the evening of Friday 6th, at Karl Marx Theater . The closing ceremony is scheduled for Saturday April 7th, and the performances will be in charge of the Orchestra of Students of Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, under the direction of maestro Guido López-Gavilán they will interpret works of Roberto Valera and of Lopez-Gavilán himself. The National Choir as well as that of Bayamo, and Holguín Choirs will also participate.
Running parallel to the presentations, 14 workshops of work preparation will be developed in morning hours, where choir singers will participate. They will learn and socialize during those days. Every day will begin with a session of common singing that will vocally train participants for the day.
Some of the workshops will work on the Cuban music; the Caribbean and Antilles; as well as the ancient music of several countries. Other workshops will deal on tango and Habaneras songs as well as choral jazz. Particular attraction will have a workshop about music for children choirs, infantile school, and feminine.
Lectures and round tables will be given, having as objectives the social function of choirs, their therapeutic role in children, youths, and adults; the choral composition of the American continent; and the teaching of choral singing in the region, among other topics.
Under the slogan Let's Unite Our Voices in a Fraternal Song, Havana will bring together singers from different parts of the world in an encounter in the interest of the development and promotion of the choral art in our America.
