Cuba will beef up economic cooperation with Vietnam in its strong spheres like biotechnology, medicine production and petroleum industry, Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque said at a press briefing after holding talks with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem.
Cuba, having very good political ties with Vietnam, supports the country's bid for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2008-2009 term, he said.
Vietnam will focus on strengthening economic and trade cooperation with Cuba, trying to export more farm produces, light industry products and consumer goods to the country, Khiem said, adding that the two sides will also step up cooperation in education, culture and politics.
During his visit, the Cuban foreign minister, arriving in Vietnam on Friday morning, is scheduled to pay courtesy visits to Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Friday afternoon, and Manh on Saturday afternoon.
